How to Welcome Spring in and around RiverLights
Spring fever is hitting the South and it’s early April! If you’re itching to get out of the house to enjoy the sunshine, we have suggestions for some simple local activities your family can try this season.
At Home
Grow Your Own Herbs
Growing your own herbs is the simplest way to add some fresh greenery to your kitchen! The easiest herbs to grow at home are chives, mint, parsley, and basil. Cilantro and oregano will also flourish inside. Plant the herbs in small flowerpots or mason jars to add southern charm to your kitchen.
Try New Recipes
Spring and even summer showers are sure to put a damper on your outdoor plans, but make a day out of being inside by trying new recipes with your family in the kitchen. Look for recipes that are hands on (and maybe a little messy). Your kids will enjoy being a part of the process and seeing their final product. A simple banana bread recipe is perfect for spring and the kids will love using their hands to mash the bananas!
Brighten Your Doorstep
Work with your kids on planting flowers and sewing flower seeds for the upcoming summer season. Children will love watering the plants and watching them grow...it can be their project leading into the summer “out of school” season.
At RiverLights
Community Events
Plan to take part in the Marina Village Marketplace event every other Friday from May- November starting May 3rd. The market alternates between a morning market and an evening market, making it easier than ever to fit in to your schedule. This is a great way to support the local community through purchasing local produce, fresh home-made bread, and exploring other goods and crafts made by local artisans in the Wilmington area.
The Lake At RiverLights
Relax by paddling around the 38-acre fresh-water lake or you could walk or bike the 3+mile trail that surrounds the lake. Plan to do it each evening or on the weekends…it will be a great way to make memories with your kids or just to relax after a long day.
Waterfront Stroll & Dining
End the day at Smoke on the Water on their outdoor porch while watching the sunset over the Cape Fear River. It truly is a beautiful site to see at any age. Or, just stroll along the boardwalk and day docks that sit on the river.
Surrounding Community
Fishing at Kure Beach Fishing Pier
Spend time at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier! The pier is family-friendly spot to go fishing or just go for a walk. Access to the pier is free, but there is a fee if you decide to fish.
Picnic on the Beach
With the mild temperatures and more daylight in the evenings, spring is an ideal time to relax with a picturesque picnic on the beach. Include the whole family and bring along beach games to play like bocce ball or ladder golf.
Bike Ride at Beach Loop Trail
Bring the whole family for a bike ride along the nature trails at the beach loop trail. The experience of feeling the ocean breeze while cruising along the bike trail is the best way to cure those winter blues.
RiverLights along with the surrounding area has activities for all ages, but the weather during the springtime period along the Carolina coast is so pleasant you will not ever want to go inside.
